Hi there, and welcome (at last!) to my graphic resources tutorials! Just before we get going, I decided to put in a little foreword-type thing,
just to introduce to you the idea of graphic resources and say a couple of things about their specifications.
In brief, graphic resources are any graphic material that you can import into RMXP to use in your games. There are fourteen different types of
graphic resources that can be created and imported into RMXP:
Animations (used for battle animations)
Autotiles (tiles that automatically join together when you place them)
Battlebacks (backgrounds used for the battle screen)
Battlers (images of characters displayed at the bottom of the battle screen in battle)
Characters (sometimes called charsets. They are the animation graphics for the sprites that move around on the field during gameplay, and
are also displayed in the menu for status screens, etc.)
Fogs (semi-transparent textures shown over maps to give atmosphere)
Gameovers (full-screen graphics shown when all the party is knocked out or when the gameover screen is called from within an event)
Icons (small images shown next to item, skill, weapon and armour names in the menu and in shops)
Panoramas (large tiled images which are shown behind maps when there are no tiles in front of them)
Pictures (any shape and size of graphic. They are used in events for countless different uses)
Tilesets (a large graphic file containing all the tiles required for constructing maps)
Titles (full-screen graphics shown at the title screen)
Transitions (greyscale images used to transition the map screen into the battle screen)
Windowskins (images containing all the graphic information for the window background, the cursor, the input arrow and the battle-select
arrow)
Enterbrain have published their own graphic resources specification page on the official English release site for RMXP, which you can see here:
I hope that has given you a bit of information on what we're going to be looking at. So, with that out of the way - let's get going!
